The 2024 Chevy Trax Returns, Redesigned and Better Than Ever
When the Chevy Trax was first introduced in 2015, drivers and experts alike were excited by everything this SUV had to offer. With its subcompact size, budget-friendly price, and a long list of features and options, the Trax became known as an ideal vehicle for new drivers, older drivers, those new to SUVs, and those downsizing from a larger vehicle. In short, the Trax was as close as possible to a vehicle offering something for everyone.
But in recent years, you may have noticed the Trax took a short break from the Chevy lineup. After the 2022 model year, the Chevy Trax was briefly discontinued, only to return for the 2024 model year as a bigger, better-than-ever version of the small SUV that revolutionized driving just a few years ago. In fact, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax was part of Car and Driver’s 2024 “10Best Trucks and SUVs” list. Check out why the Chevy Trax has a special place on the American roadways, and if you’ve been looking for a Chevy dealer near Bloomington to check out this model up close, we invite you to visit us at Vermilion Chevrolet GMC, conveniently located in Tilton.
Where the Chevy Trax Left Off With the 2022 Model
To illustrate how very “all-new” the 2024 Chevy Trax is, let’s take a look at the 2022 Trax. There are many things to like about the 2022 Chevy Trax, and as a used car, it’s a fantastic budget-friendly option for many drivers. In fact, the 2022 model has a few things that aren’t offered on the current Trax, like an all-wheel drive model and a 1.4L turbocharged inline-4 engine that was good for 155 hp.
But there were a few areas where drivers and critics were a little concerned. The first is space. The Chevy Trax was designed to be compact, but there’s always a question of “how much space is enough?” Though the 2022 Trax has a typically compact rear seat, that same rear seat folds down to provide a maximum of 48.4 cu.ft. of cargo room.
Technology is also an area where some drivers felt the 2022 Trax could go a bit further. For the sake of economy, the 2022 model is offered in only two trims: the LS and LT. A 7-inch infotainment screen is standard, along with WiFi, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Driver assistance features, like Blind Spot Monitoring, are part of the Driver Confidence Package and are available only on the LT trim. It’s not the most basic vehicle that’s ever existed, but drivers indicated they were ready for a little more.
The New Chevy Trax Makes Its Triumphant Return in 2024
And all of that has changed with the new and improved Chevy Trax. Wishes were granted to drivers across the country when Chevy introduced the bigger, well-designed, intelligently engineered, and technologically advanced 2024 Trax.
Measuring in at 11 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the previous models, the new Trax offers 3 inches of extra legroom for rear passengers. Additionally, this means the cargo space has expanded, with a maximum capacity of 54.1 cu.ft. with the rear seat folded.
The new Trax has a smaller engine—a 1.2L turbocharged version that produces 137 hp. Though this is less than the previous engine provided, this new power source has been engineered to be more lightweight and responsive, providing just the right amount of pep to make driving the Trax downright enjoyable.
Furthermore, the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance technology is standard on each Trax model. This includes features like Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, IntelliBeam automatic headlights, and Lane Keep Assist. Depending on the trim you select, you may also add Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert to help you feel safe and confident enough to navigate the entire length of East Street.
More Trim Options Offers More Choices
While the 2022 Trax lineup had dwindled to just two potential selections, the new 2024 Trax is offered in five different trims. The LS starts things off with an ample 8-inch color touchscreen infotainment system, which unlocks access to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, Bluetooth audio streaming, voice command, and an HD Rear Vision Camera. The 3.5-inch Driver Information Center places vital stats like speed, fuel economy, and the trip odometer directly in the driver’s sight. Already this improves upon the standard offerings just two years ago.
Those who are familiar with the Chevy lineup know that an RS trim is bound to be sporty. With its red and black RS accents, the Trax 1RS trim makes good on this promise. Other performance-centric features include heated driver and front passenger seats and a heated steering wheel. Things start to get a little more comfortable at the LT level, where the infotainment system screen grows to an 11-inch HD version. The audio system gains an additional two speakers, while features like Single-Zone Automatic Climate Control and Remote Start make life a little easier.
As the name implies, the ACTIV has an on-the-go personality, perfect for folks who want to hit more than one of Bloomington’s beautiful parks in one day. Features like a heated steering wheel paired with 8-way power-adjustable heated driver and 2-way power-adjustable front passenger Evotex seating, the 2024 Chevy Trax ACTIV can make the commute an actual enjoyable experience. The 2RS trim also features heated Evotex seats but adds the sporty RS red accents along with the traditional RS performance-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel. If you like a little extra style on your ride, this trim combines comfort and sportiness.
Additional packages are available on each trim to provide the features that will make the Trax your dream car, including an available Sunroof Package, Adaptive Cruise Control, and wireless device charging. Essentially, if there’s something you really crave in your next SUV, chances are pretty good that Chevy has a way of making that dream come true.
